Marshfield wins final meet of Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament, earns four all-conference spots

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield won the final leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on its home course on Friday at RiverEdge Golf Course.

The Tigers had four top-10 finishers and had a team score of 336, easily taking first place at the meet. D.C. Everest was second with a score of 349, one shot ahead of Stevens Point, and with that one-stroke margin for second place, the Evergreens won the overall team title for the first time. Marshfield finished third in the overall standings.

Merrill’s Russell Dettmering was the meet medalist with a 77, edging Wausau East’s Carter Cygan by one shot and Marshfield’s Ben Baur by two.

Dettmering won his third-straight overall WVC title as he won the final six of the seven conference meets.

Nate Boson shot an 84 to finish sixth, Davis Rens tied for seventh with an 86, and Cole Hanson tied for 10th with an 87 for the Tigers. All four of the Marshfield golfers who finished in the top 10 on Friday ended up earning all-conference honors.

Boson finished seventh, Baur ninth and Rens 10th in the overall individual standings to earn second-team all-WVC honors. Hanson finished tied for 11th overall to gain honorable mention all-conference.

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional on Tuesday at Bass Lake Golf Club in Antigo.
