Marshfield baseball drops final regular-season game to Eau Claire North

MARSHFIELD – Eau Claire North used a seven-run fourth inning to bust open a close game and beat Marshfield 15-5 in a nonconference game that wraps up the regular season for both teams on Friday at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield fought back from 3-0 and 6-2 deficits to get to within one at 6-5 after a three-run third.

The Huskies (19-4) responded with the seven-run fourth and held Marshfield (14-12) scoreless the rest of the way.

Mason Coffren hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Isaiah Baierl and Jacob Earll each had RBI singles in the third for Marshfield.

Joel Zachow threw three scoreless innings, striking out three, to earn the save for Eau Claire North.

North had 18 hits, including six doubles, and six walks against a pair of Marshfield pitchers – Logan Schreiner and Caleb Specht.

Anthony Pogodzinski was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Zachow drove in three for the Huskies.

Marshfield will open the WIAA playoffs with a Division 1 regional semifinal at home against Hudson on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
