Marshfield 14U Black softball finishes second at Class B National Championships

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Marshfield 14U Black girls fastpitch softball team finished second at the USA Northern 14U Class B National Championships, which concluded Sunday, July 28.

Marshfield went 9-2 in the 27-team field, losing 9-4 to Sioux Falls (S.D.) in the championship game.

In pool play, Marshfield beat BNGSA Spirit and Freedom, two teams it lost to at the state tournament earlier in the month.

Marshfield moved on to bracket play as a No. 1 seed and beat 612 Softball of Minneapolis and Plover 14 Nationals, before losing to Plover 13 Nationals. On July 27, Marshfield beat River City Rage of La Crosse, Falls Angels of Menomonee Falls, and Vernon Hills (Ill.) Vipors to reach the final day of competition.

After beating Pekin (Ill.) Power and Plover 13 Nationals in a rematch, 4-0, Marshfield fell short in the championship game.

“The girls played their hearts out, the parents were amazing and positive, and the coaches did an amazing job,” Marshfield head coach John Donahue said. “We left everything on the field and had a great run, during the tournament and the season.”
