WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield juniors Anna Weis and Morgan Meyer advanced to next week’s sectional with top individual performances at the WIAA Division 1 girls golf regional tournament on Wednesday at the Ridges Golf Course.
The top four teams and top three individuals not on those teams move on to the Division 1 sectional Tuesday, Oct. 8, Stevens Point Country Club.
Weis finished tied for ninth with a 92 and Meyer finished 13th with a 96 to earn the top two individual qualifying spots at the sectional. Emily Nelson of Holmen was the other individual qualifier, as she had a 102 to tie for 17th.
Stevens Point won the team title with a 350, five shots better than Tomah. Onalaska was third with a 379 and Wisconsin Rapids took fourth with a 420. Marshfield was fifth with a 429.
Abby Nickel of Stevens Point was the individual regional champion, shooting an 83, one shot in front of Tomah’s Brin Neumann. Ally Nickel of Stevens Point was third with an 87.
Sophie Lee shot a 120, Bryssa Lenz had a 121 and Tia Campbell had a 150 to round out Marshfield’s scoring.
The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional will qualify for the 2019 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Oct. 14-15.
