SPENCER – The Auburndale girls won their third-straight title and the Athens boys were the team champions at the 2019 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Frey Field. Auburndale was the host school of the annual conference meet.
All eight of Auburndale’s girl runners finishes in the top 20 in a dominant performance for the Apaches, who finished with 45 points. Wisconsin Rapids Assumption was a distant second with 80, three better than Marathon. Edgar finished fifth and Stratford seventh.
Edgar senior Marissa Ellenbecker won her fourth-straight individual girls title, taking first in 20:24.1, nine seconds ahead of Claudia Lasiowski of Chequamegon.
McKenna Zieher was third in 20:46.5 to lead Auburndale, which also had top-10 finishes from Erricka Zenner (eighth, 21:06.6) and Jordyn Karl (ninth, 21:09.0).
Macie Schmeiser was 12th in 21:53.5 and Autumn Richardson took 13th in 21:53.7 to round out Auburndale’s scoring runners.
Grace Dolan was fifth in 20:53.7 and Cristin Casey took sixth in 21:03.7 to lead Assumption.
Jada Prihoda took 10th in 21:11.5 for Marathon.
Stratford’s top finish was from Ella Heidmann, who was 25th in 22:32.9.
Athens edged Marathon by one point, 61-62, to capture the boys team title. Stratford was third, Auburndale fourth and Edgar eighth.
Johnathon Nowacki won the boys race for Athens in 17:17.9, 10 seconds ahead of Garrett Dolan of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
Stratford had a pair of top-five finishes as James Heeg was third in 17:35.1 and Andrew Chapel finished fifth in 17:39.4. Caden Bruesewitz was 15th in 18:54.3 and Isaac Thompson was 19th in 19:00.8 as well for the Tigers.
Carl Lundgren topped Auburndale, taking fourth in 17:37.2. Gavin White Eagle (16th, 18:58.1) and Charles Jewell (18th, 19:00.4) also earned top-20 finishes for the Apaches.
Edgar’s top finish came from Cole Schilling, who was 55th in 21:23.2.
Auburndale, Edgar, Stratford, Assumption and Marathon will compete at the WIAA Division 3 sectional at Athens on Friday, Oct. 25. Chequamegon, Prentice and Phillips will be at the Division 3 sectional at South Shore on Saturday, Oct. 26.
