Columbus Catholic volleyball tops Athens to claim WIAA Division 4 regional title

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team is off to sectionals for the third time in the past four seasons after dominating Athens 3-0 in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons won 25-13, 25-15, 25-20, to advance to the Division 4 sectional semifinals, where they will face a familiar opponent.

Columbus Catholic will host Wausau Newman Catholic in a sectional semifinal Thursday at 7 p.m. The Dons have lost to Newman Catholic in the playoffs in each of the past four years.

Dorci Walker had 12 kills and 14 digs, and Meghan Kibbel had 26 assists and 11 digs to pace Columbus Catholic.

Emmalee Jicinsky added four kills and 19 digs, Maria Taylor had four kills and 11 digs, Jessica Jakopin added five kills, and Sydney Litwaitis had a team-high 20 digs and three service aces for the Dons.
