AUBURNDALE – Auburndale wasted little time to show that it was on its game Friday against Chequamegon.
Alex Lang and Kyle Willfahrt each scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to push Auburndale to a 28-0 lead and the Apaches rolled to a 42-6 victory at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches improve to 3-3 overall and in the Marawood Conference, keeping their playoff hopes alive with two conference games remaining.
Lang had touchdown runs of 15 and 1 yard and Willfahrt exploded for TD scampers of 65 and 64 yards to help Auburndale to its big early lead.
Lang added a 15-yard score in the second quarter and Kyle Gruenke had a 10-yard TD run in the fourth for Auburndale.
Willfahrt finished with 196 yards on just nine carries and Lang added 88 yards on 13 carries as Auburndale piled up 338 yards on the ground.
Christian Newbury had 138 yards rushing for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Marawood.
Auburndale plays at nonconference game at Neillsville on Oct. 8.
