BALDWIN – Marshfield fought back from two deficits but couldn’t hold on to a late lead and settled for a 5-5 tie with Baldwin-Woodville in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Baldwin United Civic Center.

The Blackhawks scored in the opening minute before Evan Weister and Ian Haugen scored for Marshfield to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead after one period.

Baldwin-Woodville regained the lead with two goals in the first 1:15 of the second period before the Tigers quickly tied it again when Payton Smith scored on a power play 2:35 into the period.

Max Heller gave the Tigers a brief lead before Baldwin-Woodville tied it again.

Ben Lawyer scored at the 5:05 mark of the third period for Marshfield, but again B-W tied it with a goal by Max Buhr three minutes later.

Neither team scored for the final nine minutes of regulation or in overtime.

“We are happy with the effort of our team to dig out of holes early in the game,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We have a younger team this year, and we made some mistakes that sophomores and freshmen will make as they adjust to the speed and physicality of varsity hockey. The team responded well after these mistakes.

“Evan Weister had a big game for our team tonight. He has been playing really well in practice and that carried over into our first game. While we had some mistakes, the team did a lot of things right and we see a very high ceiling for this team.”

Marshfield will play at the Tomah Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
