Spencer/Columbus wrestling has two champions, finishes fifth at Royall Invitational

ROYALL – The Spencer/Columbus wrestling team opened its 2019-20 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the Royall Invitational on Saturday at Royall High School.

Ashton Ackman (113 pounds) and Treyton Ackman (120) finished first, and Kage Carlson (132) and Ty Woodkey (106) both were second for the Rockets.

Ashton Ackman, a senior, beat Colton Lejcher of Blair-Taylor with a 14-6 major decision in the 113-pound championship.

Sophomore Treyton Ackman earned the 120-pound title with a pin in 3:02 over Yanzong Xiong of Madison East.

Woodkey lost in the 106-pound finals to Nolan McKittrick of Royall by pin in 5:30, and Carlson dropped the 132-pound championship match to James Amacher of Poynette, 11-0.

Spencer/Columbus will start its Cloverbelt Conference season with a match at Stanley-Boyd on Thursday.
