Neillsville girls basketball pulls past Auburndale to win tournament title

AUBURNDALE – Alli Schoengarth made 7 of 8 free throws in the second half to finish with a team-high 15 points and lead the Neillsville girls basketball team to a 52-43 win over Auburndale in the championship game of the Auburndale Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Auburndale High School.

Neillsville led 24-22 at halftime before pulling away in the second half. Overall, the Warriors were 15 of 19 at the free throw line in the second half to ice the win and improve to 7-1 this season.

Georgi Schmuzter had three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points for Auburndale (7-3).

Auburndale returns to action Jan. 2 at home against Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division game. Neillsville’s next game is Jan. 3 at Spencer for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division contest.
