MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point won all but one event to slide past Marshfield 103-67 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys swimming dual meet Thursday at Marshfield High School.
Marshfield’s lone win came from Ethan Dagit in the 50-yard freestyle as he won in 23.28 seconds.
Marshfield came up just short in a number of races that could have possibly changed the outcome.
Stevens Point won four races by less than one second. The closest race came in the 200 individual medley where the Panthers’ Parker Soik edged Kyle Berres by 8/100 of a second to earn first place.
In addition to the 200 IM, Kyle Berres also placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.44) for the Tigers.
Other individual runner-up finishes for Marshfield came from Sander Marty in the 100 butterfly (59.76), Dagit in the 100 freestyle (52.86), and Myles Jensen in the 500 freestyle (5:18.17). All three relays also ended with Stevens Point first and Marshfield second.
Marshfield (2-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference) hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Jan. 9. Stevens Point (4-0 WVC) hosts Wausau East on Tuesday.
