NEENAH – The seventh-seeded Marshfield boys basketball team hung with No. 2 seed Neenah for most of the game, but could never quite catch up.

Marshfield was as close as five with less than three minutes left before Neenah put the game away at the free throw line and finished off a 63-49 win in a WIAA Division 1 boys basketball regional final Saturday night at Neenah High School.

Neenah (22-2) moves on to a D-1 sectional semifinal against No. 3 seed and Big Rivers Conference champion Chippewa Falls (19-5) on Thursday at Appleton East. Marshfield’s season ends with a 15-9 record.

Marshfield was within four at 34-30 at halftime and stayed close until late when Neenah star Max Klesmit took over.

Klesmit had a pair of three-point plays late and finished with a game-high 32 points for Neenah.

Anthony Posteluk had 19 points and Joey Goettl scored 11 to lead Marshfield. Both had three 3-pointers for the Tigers, who shot 50 percent from the field (19 of 38).

Neenah finished a crisp 60 percent from the floor (21 of 35) and made 16 of their 17 free throw attempts.
