Marshfield volleyball pulls out home win over Merrill

MARSHFIELD – Junior Casey Frankland was on her game and the Marshfield volleyball team was able to top Merrill 3-1 to win its second-straight match to start the season.

Marshfield won 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, to improve to 2-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Merrill is now 0-2.

Frankland finished with 16 kills, 12 digs and seven service aces to lead the way for the Tigers.

Frankland had a pair of aces to help Marshfield build a 7-2 lead in the opening set.

Merrill closed to within a point on four different occasions, the final time at 19-18.

However, the Tigers were able to hang on to the lead and finished off the win with a 6-2 run.

Brooklyn Boushack had a kill, Alani Carter had a block kill, and Brianna Jakobi had a service ace to help the Tigers finish off a 25-20 win.

Frankland had four-straight kills to push Marshfield out to a 6-1 lead in the second set before Merrill stormed back.

The Bluejays pulled ahead 19-16 after an ace by Brenna Steinagel and closed out the 25-21 win on Marshfield’s sixth service error.

Marshfield recovered to win the final two sets as setter Taylor Barwick continued her solid performance and finished with 37 assists.

Elise Uphoff had a team-high 13 digs, and Boushack added seven kills and 11 digs for Marshfield.

Marshfield will play at Wausau East on Thursday at 7 p.m.
