Auburndale captures 7th straight Marawood South volleyball title

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale volleyball team has done it again.

The Apaches, behind a strong defense that produced four players in double figures in digs, and 16 assists from setter Kayleigh Kundinger, downed Marathon 25-20, 25-19, 25-7 in a battle of undefeated teams in the Marawood Conference South Division.

The victory gives Auburndale its seventh straight Marawood South championship, which includes five outright titles.

Kari Willfahrt had seven kills and Haley Harman added six for the Apaches, who finish the Marawood South season at 7-0.

Kimberly Masephol had 22 digs, Kundinger had 14, Willfahrt chipped in 13 and Kayle Nikolay had 12 for Auburndale.

Alex Boehm led Marathon with 10 kills and Ashley Butalla had 13 assists.

Auburndale plays a nonconference match at Athens on Thursday. The WIAA playoff brackets will be announced Thursday and the postseason begins with regional quarterfinals on Oct. 19.
