WAUSAU – Wausau West scored three goals midway through the second half to put away Marshfield and win the WIAA Division 1 boys soccer regional final 4-0 on Saturday at West High School.

Amani Knutson scored in the 21st minute to give West a 1-0 lead. A defensive save by Marshfield’s Logan Meyer in the final minute of the half kept the Tigers within striking distance.

West (12-0) finally wore down the Tigers as Gael Medina scored twice in a span of 3:20, and Luis Coretz added the final goal in the 84th minute.

“We knew if we played our best we could compete and this was stressed to our team at halftime,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “It was a season the players won’t forget from COVID, masks, very few fans, to the snow game at home against D.C. Everest. These players really laid on the line each and every night and I am proud of the team.”

Trevor Cassidy made nine saves in goal for Marshfield, which finishes the season with a 5-6-3 record.

Wausau West will host Baraboo in a D-1 sectional semifinal Thursday.
