Auburndale girls basketball defeats Iola-Scandinavia to earn WIAA Division 4 regional title

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team is heading to sectionals after a 56-48 victory over Iola-Scandinavia in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday night at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale doubled up Iola-Scandinavia in the first half, leading 30-15 at halftime. The Thunderbirds closed the gap a bit in the second half but the Eagles were able to hold on, making 11 of 18 free throws in the second half.

Annamarie Aue had 22 points and Kaitlyn Kundinger added 10 points for Auburndale, which is now 17-4 this season after its seventh-straight win.

The sectional seedings and pairings will be announced Sunday. The sectional semifinals are Thursday and the championship is next Saturday, Feb. 19.
