MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team doubled up Greenwood in the first half and cruised to a 53-36 win over its Cloverbelt Conference rival in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Columbus Catholic (19-5) will host a D-5 regional final against Port Edwards (12-4) at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com. Port Edwards won at Almond-Bancroft 65-39 on Friday.

Columbus rolled out to a 33-16 lead by halftime and maintained its lead in the second half.

Greenwood came as close as six at 38-32 before the Dons pulled away again.

Emmitt Konieczny had 13 points and Jadon Nienast scored 10 for the Dons in a balanced scoring attack that saw eight different players score.

Weston Schmitz scored 10 points for Greenwood, which has its season end with a 12-7 record.

“I thought we played really well the later part of the first half to get a nice lead,” Columbus Catholic coach Joe Konieczny said. “The second half got a little bit sloppy at times, but you have to give Greenwood credit, a lot of seniors and they played hard.”
