Maria Anderson wraps up fall season for UWGB tennis

GREEN BAY – Marshfield High School graduate Maria Anderson, a sophomore on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s tennis team, went 1-1 at the IPFW Mastodon Invitational on Oct. 1-2 at Fort Wayne, Ind.

Anderson, playing at No. 4 singles, defeated Stephanie York of Valparaiso 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-6, before losing in the semifinals to Caterina Kiefer of Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne 6-0, 6-1.

The meet completed the short fall season for the Phoenix, which include three tournaments and a dual meet with UW-Eau Claire.

Anderson went 1-1 at Northern Illinois, 2-0 at the River Forest Clay Court Collegiate Invitational and defeated Gretchen Bachmeier of UW-Eau Claire 6-3, 6-0 in the dual meet that the Phoenix won 6-1.

UWGB’s spring season begins Jan. 23 with a dual meet at Marquette University in Milwaukee on Jan. 23.
