Marshfield volleyball rallies, advances to regional final

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team found itself down early, but the Tigers rallied to defeated Antigo 3-1 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Thursday at Marshfield High School.

No. 3 seed Marshfield lost the opening game 25-18 before cruising past the sixth-seeded Red Robins with three straight wins – 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 – to move on to Saturday’s regional final at No. 2 seed Merrill. Merrill defeated D.C. Everest 3-1 in its semifinal match.

Tiffany Stargardt had 17 kills and Sarah Cherney added 14 for the Tigers. Setter Sarah Wolff had 46 assists and Darian Molter led the defense with 31 digs.

“We had an all-around great performance by everyone tonight,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “Even when we were down in the first game, the girls remained positive and focused on the task at hand – a win.”
