Columbus Catholic baseball comes back from eight down to defeat Pittsville

PITTSVILLE – The Columbus Catholic baseball team rallied from an eight-run deficit to top Pittsville 13-9 in a nonconference game Monday.

Pittsville scored eight times in the bottom of the second to grab a quick 8-0 lead before Columbus Catholic chipped away.

The Dons scored twice in the third and fourth innings, and after Pittsville made it 9-4 with a run in the fifth, Columbus Catholic scored six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to snag the victory.

Emmitt Konieczny earned the win for the Dons, throwing two perfect innings in relief to close it out. He also had two runs scored and an RBI.

Brock Bennington had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, and Cole Timmler added two hits and two RBIs in the win for Columbus Catholic (11-8).

Columbus Catholic wraps up its regular-season schedule Tuesday at home against Owen-Withee. Pittsville (8-8) will play a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Alma Center Lincoln on Thursday.
