Marshfield Chaparrals baseball pulls away to beat Everest Merchants

MARSHFIELD – Caleb Krommenakker threw eight strong innings and the Marshfield Chaparrals smacked 15 hits as they went on to defeat the Everest Merchants 9-3 in an amateur baseball game Wednesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Caleb Krommenakker had an RBI single and later scored on an error, and Will Lee tripled home Luke Wirth, who had singled, to give Marshfield a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Everest scored twice in the fifth, but the Chaparrals responded with another run on a Lee groundout.

Marshfield pushed its lead two 6-2 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Jason Kurth had an RBI single and Garrett Huber drove Wirtz home with a double.

The Chaparrals (5-3) put the game away with a three-run eighth. Caleb Krommenakker had an RBI infield single, Wirtz had a sacrifice fly, and Kurth walked with the bases loaded to push Marshfield’s lead to six.

Hunter Korger finished off the win for Marshfield with a scoreless ninth inning.
