Marshfield Senior Legion splits doubleheader at De Pere

DE PERE – The Marshfield American Legion baseball team, after three-straight rainouts, finally got back on the field Thursday and split a non-league doubleheader at De Pere on Thursday.

De Pere won the opening game 8-4 and Marshfield responded with a 4-0 shutout to earn the split and post its first victory of the season.

In Game 1, Marshfield’s Noah Grimm had an RBI single in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 before De Pere exploded for five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Derek Weber had a two-run triple and scored on an error, and Myles Jensen had a two-run single to put De Pere on top 6-1.

Trailing 8-1, Marshfield scored three times in the sixth on three consecutive bases-loaded walks, but couldn’t get any closer.

Kale Weisenberger went the distance for Marshfield, allowing just one earned run with two strikeouts.

Cam Daul threw a complete-game four-hitter in the second game to lead the Blue Devils to the split. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Marshfield managed just one hit, a fourth-inning single by Dayne Diethelm, as the game went into the sixth scoreless.

The Blue Devils managed two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings without the benefit of a hit.

Peter Earll walked and Chandler Schmidt was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Courtesy runner Parker Weik scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Homolka and Schmidt scored on a wild pitch to give Marshfield a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Devils (1-3) tacked on two in the seventh. Adam Zee was beaned, and Riley Bauman and Carsten Jirschele walked to load the bases with no outs. Colten Schillinger plated one run with a sacrifice fly and Bauman scored on an error to make it 4-0.

Daul struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
