Stratford scores in final minutes to edge Mosinee

MOSINEE – Dillon Kirsch had a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:15 remaining to lift the Stratford football team to a 14-7 win over Mosinee in a nonconference game to open the 2021 season on Friday night at Mosinee High School.

Gavin Kirsch had a 2-yard run in the first quarter to give Stratford a 6-0 lead.

Mosinee grabbed the lead in the second when Trevor Garski hit Keagen Jirschele with a 45-yard touchdown pass and Eli Miland’s extra point gave the Indians a 7-6 lead.

The lead held until late when Stratford put together the winning drive in the closing minutes. Dillon Kirsch finished off the drive with the short touchdown run and Gavin Kirsch ran in the two-point conversion to provide the final score.

Garski finished 18-for-29 for 182 yards passing and added 36 yards on the ground. Davin Stoffel had six catches for 58 yards and Jirschele finished with four receptions for 69 yards for Mosinee.

Raife Smart ran for 129 yards to lead the Stratford offense.

Both teams return to action next Friday, Aug. 27. Stratford will host rival Edgar and Mosinee will travel to Kaukauna for a nonconference game against Racine St. Catherine’s.
