Columbus Catholic soccer tops Amherst in Central Wisconsin Conference opener

MARSHFIELD – Mira Torbey scored a pair of goals as the Columbus Catholic soccer team posted a 3-1 win over Amherst in the Central Wisconsin Conference opener for both teams on Monday at Griese Park.

Alex Edwards scored at the 11:53 mark, off an assist from Grant Olson, and Torbey had an unassisted goal in the 33rd minutes to give the Dons (3-1 overall) a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Torbey scored again, this time on an assist from Sammy Neville, at the 60:00 mark to make it 3-0.

Amherst’s A.J. Everson scored on a Spencer Cohen assist with 15 seconds remaining for the Falcons’ only goal.

Alex Martin had eight saves in goal for Amherst. Columbus Catholic goalie Lucas Kreklau had five saves.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic will play at Northland Lutheran on Thursday at 5 p.m.
