Columbus Catholic has two boys finish in top five at Loyal/Greenwood Cross Country Invite

LOYAL – Altoona swept the team titles at the Loyal/Greenwood Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday at Loyal High School.

Altoona won the boys team standings with 41 points, nine ahead of Chippewa Falls McDonell. Loyal/Greenwood was sixth with 148 points, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic and Neillsville/Granton did not have complete teams.

The Railroaders totaled 67 points to edge Fall Creek by two points to win the girls title. Loyal/Greenwood was fourth with 81 points, Neillsville/Granton took eighth with 209 points, and Columbus Catholic had an incomplete squad.

Dan Anderson of Chippewa Falls McDonell won the boys race in 17:35.5, 33 seconds ahead of Columbus Catholic’s Andrew Scheer. Taytor Lowry of Neillsville/Granton was third in 18:14.9 and Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer finished fifth in 18:56.0.

Avery Horvath led Loyal/Greenwood, taking 13th in 19:32.8.

Jenna Anders of Fall Creek won the girls race in 21:47.6, just 4.3 seconds in front of Eau Claire Regis’ Eydie Myers.

Loyal/Greenowod had its top four runners finish in a group from 13th to 17th place. Halle Aumann was 13th (25:14.9), Aubre Robida took 14th (25:24.7), Addison Davidson was 15th (25:28.7) and Leah Scherer finished 17th (25:35.4) for the Greenhounds.

Faustina Thomas took 26th to lead Neillsville/Granton, finishing in 26:39.4.

Columbus Catholic’s lone girl runner was Charlotte Schiferl, who took 49th in 30:07.6.
