MARSHFIELD – Gael Medina scored twice, including the game-winner in the 48th minute, to lift Wausau West to a 2-1 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Medina scored in the 16th minute to put the Warriors on top, but Marshfield quickly answered. Keegan Fredrick lobbed in a high pass from the left sideline and Julian Clopton knocked it in to tie the game at 1-1 for the Tigers.

That score held until 7½ minutes into the second half when Medina scored again, and that proved to be the difference in the game.

West controlled the ball for most of the game, especially in the second half, as the Tigers managed just four shots. Marshfield goalkeeper Seth Jonas made 18 saves and West had 24 total shots, 20 on goal.

Wausau West (4-2-1, 3-0-1 WVC) hosts first-place Stevens Point on Thursday in a WVC match. Marshfield (2-3-1, 1-3-1 WVC) returns to action Saturday with a nonconference match at Holmen.
