Columbus Catholic’s Andrew Scheer finishes second at Athens Cross Country Invite

ATHENS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas won the girls race and Tomahawk swept the team titles at the Athens Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Erbach Park.

Sainz de Rozas won the girls race in 20:10.1, 53 seconds ahead of Colby’s Daisy Feiten. Auburndale’s Jordyn Karl was third in 21:09.2 and Mckenna Zieher was seventh for the Eagles in 21:35.5.

Tomahawk won the girls team title with 37 points, with Colby second with 49, Assumption third with 64, Loyal/Greenwood sixth with 194, and Spencer ninth with 241. Athens, Auburndale and Marshfield Columbus Catholic had incomplete squads.

Spencer’s top runner was Theresa Knecht, who was 61st in 25:36.1.

Lucas Anderson of Bloomer won the boys race in 17:31.1, 32 seconds ahead of Andrew Scheer of Marshfield Columbus Catholic. Isaac Scheer of Columbus was third in 18:14.4, five seconds ahead of Charles Jewell of Auburndale. Avery Horvath of Loyal/Greenwood finished fifth in 18:21.1.

Tomahawk won the boys title with 85 points, just two better than Athens. Auburndale was third with 90, Loyal/Greenwood sixth with 171, Colby/Abbotsford seventh with 177, and Marshfield Columbus Catholic 10th with 186. Assumption and Spencer had incomplete teams.

Mason White Eagle added a ninth-place finish for Auburndale (19:31.2) and Gavin White Eagle was 18th (19:06.8).

Spencer’s top runner was Malachai Anderson, wo was 40th in 20:35.0.
