Columbus Catholic boys basketball downs Gresham in WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal

MARSHFIELD – Columbus Catholic opened up a lead late in the first half and held on in the second on its way to a 69-50 victory over Gresham in a WIAA Division 5 boys basketball regional semifinal Friday at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons pulled ahead by six points at halftime, 35-21, before outscoring Gresham (16-9) by 13 in a strong second-half performance to move on to a regional final.

No. 2 seed Columbus Catholic (22-4) will host No. 3 Edgar (14-11) in a D-5 regional final Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com. Edgar routed Northland Lutheran 83-46 on Friday.

Blake Jakobi scored 19 points, Charlie Moore added 18 and Emmitt Konieczny 17 for Columbus Catholic.
