Auburndale softball crushes Pittsville

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team scored nine times in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to an 18-3 win over Pittsville in a nonconference game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Samantha Stanton had a two-run double, and Regynn Lau and Kylie Frischman each drove in two runs with singles in the opening frame to lead the way for the Eagles, who finish the regular season with a 10-8 record.

Erin Griesbach added two hits and two RBI, and Frischman finished with three hits and scored three times in the victory.

Ashlyn Grimm earn the win, striking out five in the four-inning complete game.

Auburndale will open WIAA postseason play with a Division 4 regional semifinal at home against Necedah on Tuesday, May 24, at 4:45 p.m.

Pittsville (2-17) play a Division 5 regional quarterfinal at Royall on Thursday at 5 p.m.
