Auburndale baseball wins regular-season finale at Iola-Scandinavia

IOLA – Adan Cherney tossed a complete-game two-hitter to lead the Auburndale baseball team to a 4-1 win over Iola-Scandinavia in a nonconference matchup Monday at Iola-Scandinavia High School.

Cherney allowed just a third inning run and two walks, while striking out five to pick up the win for the Eagles, who finish the regular season with a 13-8 record.

Caden Weinfurter had two hits, and Cherney, Alex Willfahrt and Tim Schmitt had RBI for Auburndale.

Auburndale will host Northland Pines in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.

Iola-Scandinavia (4-16) will finish its regular season Tuesday at home against Wild Rose. The Thunderbirds will play a Division 4 regional quarterfinal at Rosholt on Thursday.
