Columbus Catholic volleyball sweeps Loyal in Cloverbelt East opener

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic volleyball team, ranked No. 4 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 4 state coaches poll, rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Loyal in its Cloverbelt Conference East Division and home opener on Tuesday.

The Dons won 26-24, 25-10, 25-13.

Loyal put up a fight in the first set, coming back from a 24-21 deficit to tie it before the Dons were able to pull out the final two points.

Columbus Catholic cruised from there, jumping out to a huge lead in the second set and rolling past the Greyhounds to sweep the match.

Courtney Sommer had 13 kills, 14 assists and four service aces, Aailyah Krenn was a force at the net with seven kills and five blocks, Jenna Kibbel chipped in six kills and 10 digs, and Lily Stratman had 15 assists for Columbus.

Columbus Catholic will travel to Three Lakes for a triangular meet, along with Phillips on Thursday, before playing in the Diocesan Tournament at Chippewa Falls McDonell on Saturday.
