Stratford hosts Nightfall Cross Country Classic under lighted course at RiverEdge

MARSHFIELD – More than 20 teams ran under the lights at RiverEdge Golf Course on Friday night as Stratford hosted the first Nightfall Cross Country Classic.

The Marshfield girls finished second and the boys third in the Large Division standings, while the Stratford girls and boys each earned runner-up finishes in the Small Division scoring.

Menomonie swept the Large Division titles as Connor Norby won the boys race in 17:20.46 and Brooklyn Hoff was first in the girls race in 19:41.02 for the Mustangs.

Natalie Scharenbroch was second in the girls race for Marshfield, running in 20:36.38. Michaela Dick added a top-10 finish, taking sixth in 21:58.99 as well for the Tigers.

Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer was the runner-up in the Small Division boys, running in 17:11.83 as the Dons took 10th in the team standings. Taylor Karcz of Crandon won the race in 16:45.14.

Cree DeFoe led Stratford, taking sixth in 17:54.26. The Tigers finished with 79 points, well behind champion Phillips, which had 35 points.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption won the Small Division girls team title with 52 points, with Stratford second with 80. Columbus Catholic only had four runners and didn’t qualify for the team portion.

Autumn Michalski of Chequamegon won the girls Small Division girls race in 19:03.20. Kayla Casperson was sixth (20:33.63) and Breleigh Skaya 13th (21:43.86) for Stratford.

Katelyn Casperson was Columbus’ top runner, finishing 67th in 26:15.53.
