WAUSAU – Wausau East defeated Marshfield 4-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Tuesday at East High School, sending the Tigers to their fifth-straight defeat.

Wausau East is now 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Marshfield falls to 2-8-1 and 1-3 in the WVC.

Jose Fernandez, Kaedyn Kelly and Brecken Bancuk scored goals for the Lumberjacks, and East also scored on a Marshfield own goal.

Marshfield’s lone score came from Maahir Patel on a penalty kick.

Kai Rens had five saves for Marshfield and Connor Smith saved 14 shots for East in goal.

“We started off with missing our two inside midfielders, so control of our midfield was poor at best,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “We never did quite hit stride with connecting passes or efforts. On the attempt where we did build a halfway decent attack, our finish was way way off. We definitely have room for improvement from here. We surely did not look like the same squad that played D.C. Everest last week. Time to regroup, sort some things out and move forward to our next match Thursday with Wausau West.”
