Columbus Catholic volleyball ekes out win at Gilman, wraps up outright Cloverbelt East title

GILMAN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team finished off its sixth-straight outright Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Gilman on Thursday night at Gilman High School.

The Dons won 26-24, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9 and finish the Cloverbelt East season undefeated at 7-0. Columbus will host Chippewa Falls McDonell in the first-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference Crossovers next Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m.

“The girls had to fight hard for a win tonight,” Columbus Catholic coach Kat Egle said. “Gilman played some great defense. We had to adjust our game some to work for the win. It was an exciting match to end conference play.”

Aaliyah Krenn had 17 kills, Courtney Sommer added 22 assists, 13 digs and nine kills, and Jenna Kibbel had 15 kills, seven aces and 18 digs to lead the way for the Dons.

Izzy Hoglund had 16 digs, Lily Stratman had 24 assists and seven digs, and Gracie Wilczek had eight kills and 14 digs as well for Columbus Catholic.

Gilman finishes the Cloverbelt East season 4-3.
