MARSHFIELD – Wausau West scored with 6:13 remaining to eke out a 3-2 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium.

Marshfield trailed 2-0 before coming back to tie game on goals by Maahir Patel in the 29th minute and Will Domine in the 47th minute. Landon Lee and Braxton Kurth assisted on the goals.

West pulled out the victory with the late goal.

Zak Meyer and Kai Rens each had three saves as they split time in goal for the Tigers (4-10-1, 2-5 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

West improves to 6-8-1 and 2-6 in conference play.

“All in all, a good game,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “I feel as though we outplayed West for a better part of the match. In the latter half of the match, I did get some of my players some minutes that usually don’t get many. This did leave us a bit exposed in the midfield and ultimately cost us the third goal, but overall, I am pleased with our rate of play, tempo and possession of this match. I think our midfield stepped up and made some nice plays to aid in our attack and defensive posture.”

Marshfield hosts Holmen in a nonconference match Saturday at 11 a.m. at Heiting Community Stadium. The Tigers will finish its regular-season schedule at home against Merrill on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.
