STEVENS POINT – After falling behind by two touchdowns after the first quarter, the Marshfield football team turned things around in a hurry – and emphatically.

The Tigers scored seven touchdowns during the second and third quarters to pull away for a 49-21 victory over Stevens Point in a Valley Football Association game Friday night at Goerke Field.

The win keeps Marshfield in the hunt for a share of the VFA title. Wisconsin Rapids clinched at least a share with a win over Appleton West on Friday in its final conference game of the season. Marshfield can tie for the championship with a win in its regular-season finale next Friday at Hortonville. Wausau West is also in the mix and can tie for the title with a win against D.C. Everest.

Grant Chandonias tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Amon Konopacki and Gavin Dillingham recovered a fumble in the end zone to give Stevens Point a quick 14-0 lead.

Marshfield was able to regroup and dominated the rest of the contest.

Quarterback Trevor Foemmel had touchdown runs of 46 and 48 yards, sandwiched around a 30-yard TD pass to Luke LeMoine, in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 21-14 lead by halftime.

Foemmel added a 14-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. After Chandonais threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Pumper, the Tigers (5-3, 4-1 VFA) ripped off three more scores in the third quarter.

Foemmel threw TD passes of 21 and 27 yards to LeMoine, and Jeff Marsh capped the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run to give Marshfield some cushion. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

The three touchdown catches by LeMoine ties a school record shared by two others. Ryan Danczak accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009, and Keegan Fassler last did it for the Tigers in 2014.

Foemmel finished with 169 rushing yards and threw for 153. LeMoine had four catches in total for 83 yards.

Braylon Smola ran for 102 yards and Chandonais threw for 192 yards, 103 to Konopacki on 10 catches, to lead the Stevens Point (2-6, 1-4 VFA) offense.
