Stratford girls finish third, boys fourth at Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet

ATHENS – The Phillips boys and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls repeated as team champions at the 2022 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet, held Thursday at Erbach Park.

Chequamegon’s Autumn Michalski won her second-straight individual Marawood title, winning the girls race in 18:38.5, 20 seconds in front of Lucy Dolan of Assumption.

Stratford’s Breleigh Skaya placed eighth to earn first-team all-conference honors, one of eight Stratford runners to grab all-Marawood accolades.

Assumption had its four other runners all finish in the top nine to earn the girls team title with 23 points. Phillips was second with 63 and Stratford third with 72. Auburndale had just one runner, Hope Schulte, who finished 26th in 22:45.4.

Ella Heidmann took 15th (21:33.8) and Samantha Mielke was 16th (21:38.8) to earn second-team all-conference honors for Stratford. Kressa Wenzel was 19th (22:12.5) and Mercedes Kramer was 22nd (22:29.1) were honorable mention all-Marawood honorees.

Connor Sheahan of Athens won the boys race in 16:48.2, with Connor Gabay of Phillips second in 17:10.2.

Phillips had three others finish in the top eight to win the team title with 33 points. Athens was second with 69, Stratford fourth with 107, and Auburndale seventh with 140.

Cree DeFoe was a second-team all-conference recipient after taking 11th in 17:33.0 to lead Stratford. Mason White Eagle was Auburndale’s top runner, finishing 14th in 17:52.7 to also earn second-team honors.

Stratford’s Lance Krieg (17th, 18:15.8) and Ethan Heeg (18th, 18:18.0) were honorable mention all-conference as well.

Stratford will be back at Erbach Park next Friday, Oct. 21, for the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet. Auburndale will compete at another D-3 sectional on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.
