MONDOVI – The Auburndale football team’s dream season came to an end with a 20-7 loss to Mondovi in a WIAA Division 6 Level 2 playoff game Friday night at Mondovi High School.
The Eagles won a share of the Marawood Conference title this season, the first conference title in 20 years for the program, and finshes the season with a 9-2 record.
Mondovi (10-1), the No. 2 seed in the D-6 bracket, will travel to No. 1 seed Marshall (10-1) in a Level 3 matchup on Friday, Nov. 4.
Auburndale quarterback Trayton Weber scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead going into halftime.
Mondovi was able to pull away in the second half as it held Auburndale scoreless and used a pair of rushing touchdowns by Dawson Rud to pull ahead.
Rud finished with 189 yards rushing on 31 carries and scored on runs of 4 yards in the third quarter and 1 yard in the fourth for the Buffaloes.
Auburndale was held to 100 total yards as two interceptions and two lost fumbles helped keep the Eagles at bay.
