Auburndale boys basketball surges past Weyauwega-Fremont to win home holiday tournament

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team overcame a tough shooting night to defeat Weyauwega-Fremont 46-42 in the championship game of the Auburndale Holiday Tournament on Thursday night at Auburndale High School.

Weyauwega-Fremont led 20-15 at halftime before the Eagles stormed back to overtake the Warhawks and win their eighth-straight game.

Auburndale shot just 35 percent from the field (18 of 51), were only 3 of 17 from 3-point range and made only 7 of 16 free throw attempts, but were able to eke out the win and improve to 9-1.

Alex Willfahrt had 21 points and eight rebounds, and Mason White Eagle added 17 points for Auburndale.

Auburndale has a week off before playing a Marawood Conference crossover game at Chequamegon on Friday, Jan. 6.
