MARSHFIELD – Marshfield’s Alik Martin broke a pool and school record in diving and the Tigers won seven of the 11 races in a 118-44 win over a depleted D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys swimming dual meet Thursday at Marshfield High School.

D.C. Eversest, which was undefeated at 4-0 in the WVC this season, was down to six available swimmers due to illness and other factors. While able to earn four victories, two by Blake Beatty (200 individual medley and 100 butterfly), the lack of depth handed Marshfield numerous top-three finishes as it won the meet on Senior Night in their final home meet of the season.

Martin’s score of 317.40 broke the pool record of 284.30 set in 1990 and the school record of 308.70 set in 1989, both by Mark DeMier for Marshfield, in the six-dive category.

Kyle Berres was first in the 50 freestyle (23.25 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (50.75), Carson Klumb was first in the 200 freestyle (2:06.25) and Hayden Nelson won the 100 backstroke (1:07.26) for the Tigers.

Marshfield also swept all three relays. Nelson, Michael Dick, Simon Dagit and Zander Edmundson won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.34; Dagit, Klumb, Henry Hilbelink and Berres won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.06; and Klumb, Edmundson, Hilbelink, and Berres were first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.25.

Marshfield (3-2 WVC) will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 12, at Stevens Point.
