Marathon surges past Stratford boys basketball with big second half

MARATHON – Marathon overcame a slight one-point halftime deficit to complete a season-sweep of Stratford, beating the Tigers 62-51 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball matchup Tuesday night at Marathon High School.

Marathon maintains its one-half game lead over Wausau Newman Catholic atop the Marawood South standings, improving to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the conference. Newman is 10-1 after defeating Auburndale on Tuesday. Stratford falls to 9-8 overall and 6-6 in conference play. Click here to view the Marawood South boys basketball standings

Brady Schmidt made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 19 points for Stratford, which led 28-27 at halftime before being outscored by 12 over the second 18 minutes.

Grant Warren had 24 points and 10 rebounds for Marathon.

Stratford plays a Marawood Conference crossover game at Chequamegon on Friday.
