Wisconsin Rapids surges past Marshfield boys hockey

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – After falling behind early in the second period, Wisconsin Rapids ripped off five unanswered goals and went on to defeat Marshfield 7-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday at the South Wood County Recreation Ice Arena.

Carsen Gause scored midway through the first period to give Wisconsin Rapids a 1-0 lead before Marshfield surged ahead early in the second.

Noah Peterson scored twice in a span of 1:18 to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead, but Wisconsin Rapids retaliated and took control.

Gause, Josh Dekarske and Grady Miller scored in succession to build a 4-2 advantage for the Raiders, and Miller and Trevor Vilbaum added goals in the third to extend Rapids’ lead to four.

Tyler Reissmann and Charlie Kenney netted goals for the Tigers to cut into the deficit in the closing minutes, before Vilbaum finished off the scoring with 46 seconds to go.

Wisconsin Rapids moves into third place in the conference standings with the win and is now 13-8 overall and 5-4 in the Valley. Marshfield drops to 11-11 and 2-7 in conference play. Click here to view the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey standings

Both teams wrap up their Wisconsin Valley Conference schedules on Tuesday as Rapids will host Stevens Point and Marshfield will travel to Merrill to play Wausau East/Merrill United.
