AUBURNDALE – A little more than a week ago, the Auburndale girls basketball team handed Wisconsin Rapids Assumption its first Marawood Conference South Division loss and tightened up the race for the conference title.

On Tuesday, the Royals returned the favor.

Addi Vollert scored 18 points and Jordyn Jaglinski made four 3-pointers to score 16 to lead Assumption to a hard-fought 68-63 win at Auburndale High School.

With the win, Assumption (17-3, 11-2 Marawood South) stays 1½ games ahead of second-place Edgar with three conference games left on its schedule. Auburndale falls to 14-7 and 9-4 in the conference.

Annamarie Aue scored a game-high 33 points, hitting three 3-pointers and 6 of 7 at the free throw line, in the loss for Auburndale. Josie Ertl added 14 points for the Eagles.

Assumption led 31-23 at halftime and was able to hold on by making just enough free throws. The Royals finished just 19 of 34 at the line, but Vollert was 6 of 8 and Schooley 8 of 13 to help ice the win.

Assumption hosts Abbotsford on Thursday, and Auburndale returns to action Friday at home against Athens, leaders of the Marawood North, in conference crossover games.
