Stratford High School wrestler Jackson Ormond has been voted the Awards ‘n’ More January High School Athlete of the Month.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports are co-sponsors of the award for the 2022-23 school year. The monthly award will continue through June 2023, and the winners of the Awards ‘n’ More High School Athlete of the Year, for both male and female athletes, will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Newman Catholic, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Ormond received 2,138 of the 5,003 votes cast during voting from Feb. 1-8 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the January award were: Neillsville boys basketball player Andrew Brown, Marshfield girls basketball player Danielle Minsaas, Newman Catholic boys basketball player Isaac Seidel, and Assumption girls basketball player Sarah Shaw.
Ormond finished off an undefeated month of January by claiming the 182-pound championship at the Marawood Conference Tournament on Jan. 28 at Marathon. He also won the 182-pound title at the Wausau East Lumberjack Invitational on Jan. 21 and the 195-pound championship at the Fred Lehrke Invitational at D.C. Everest on Jan. 7.
