Athens outlasts Spencer boys basketball

SPENCER – Connor Sheahan poured in 29 points and Aiden Janke added a double-double to lead Athens to a 57-47 win over Spencer in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday night at Spencer High School.

Athens jumped out to a 36-27 lead by halftime and was able to hold on in the second half to improve to 18-5 this season.

Spencer shot just 30 percent from the field and were outrebounded 43-23, as the Bluejays grabbed 15 offensive rebounds. Janke finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for Athens.

Jonathan Jonas made three 3-pointers and had 18 points to lead Spencer (6-17).

Athens finishes it regular-season schedule at Chequamegon on Tuesday. Spencer will play its final regular season game Friday at Stanley-Boyd.
