Auburndale girls basketball hits nine 3-pointers, crushes Marathon in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

AUBUNRNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team rolled out to a double-digit lead by halftime and went on to a convincing 56-37 win over Marawood Conference South Division rival Marathon in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday night at Auburndale High School.

The Eagles pulled out to a 27-17 lead at the half and outscored Marathon by nine in the second half to pull away.

Annamarie Aue had 16 points and Gracie Krings drilled five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points for Auburndale, which improves to 16-9 this season. The Eagles finished with nine 3-pointers in the win.

Auburndale, the No. 4 seed in its half of the sectional bracket, moves on to a D-4 regional final at No. 1 seed Neenah St. Mary Catholic (24-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. SMC, ranked No. 8 in the final regular-season Wissports.net D-4 state coaches poll, destroyed Princeton/Green Lake 78-24 on Friday.

Ashley Phakitthong had 17 points to lead Marathon, which finishes its season with a 13-13 record.
