CHIPPEWA FALLS – Marshfield senior Ellie Jensen qualified for the 2023 WIAA State Gymnastics Meet after placing second in the uneven bars at the Division 1 sectional Saturday at Chippewa Falls High School.
Jensen, who also made the state meet last year and placed 21st in the balance beam, finished with a score of 8.875 in the uneven bars to earn a spot at state. The event was won by Ava Krista of Chippewa Falls/McDonell with a 9.15.
The top two teams – Chippewa Falls/McDonell and Hudson – qualify for the WIAA State Team Gymnastics Meet on Friday, March 3, while the top five individuals in each event and in the all-around will compete at the WIAA State Individual Gymnastics Meet on Saturday, March 4. Both will be held at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
“It was not our strongest meet today at sectionals, but we do get to celebrate our senior and captain Ellie Jensen heading to state,” Marshfield coach Allie Siemandel said. “Ellie had an injury two weeks ago and sat out of conference last week to heal up and hopefully be ready for today, and she nailed her bars.”
Marshfield finished fourth in the team standings with a total score of 132.625, 3.2 points behind second-place Hudson.
Phoebe Hernandez took seventh in the vault (8.8) and ninth in the floor exercises (8.85), Solenne Lonsdale finished ninth in the bars (8.425), and Kyra Huff was 10th in the vault (8.6) to all earn top-10 finishes for the Tigers.
