MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic softball team used a four-run fifth inning to defeat Osseo-Fairchild 5-1 as it opened up its 2023 season on Tuesday at Madison Field.

Mattea Schlafke had an RBI single in the second inning for the Dons, only to see Osseo-Fairchild tie the game in the third.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 until the Dons broke through in the fifth.

Katelyn Casperson drove in a run with a bunt single, Cierra Dieringer added an RBI sacrifice fly, and Hailey Zimmermann and Akousa Yeboah connected on back-to-back RBI singles to give Columbus Catholic a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Zimmermann finished off the win on the mound, allowing just one baserunner in each of the final two innings. She finished with seven strikeouts, and allowed just one walk and scattered five hits.

Shelby Spata was 3-for-3 to lead the Dons’ offense in an eight-hit attack.
