Slow start dooms Stratford girls basketball in loss to Marathon

STRATFORD – Marathon outscored Stratford 20-7 in the first quarter and held on from there, knocking off the Tigers 62-45 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Stratford High School.

The loss was the Tigers’ first of the season as they fall to 2-1 and 1-1 in the Marawood South. Marathon improves to 3-1 and 1-1 in conference.

Alex Boehm scored 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting to lead Marathon, which also got 16 points from Kayla Stanley.

Marathon shot 25 of 54 from the field and held Stratford to just 17 of 49 shooting.

Sara Griesbach had 11 points and Haley Austin added nine for the Tigers, who play at Northland Lutheran on Friday.
