NEILLSILLE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with a dominating 13-2 win over Neillsville on Friday at Neillsville High School.

Seven different Dons had hits in the game as they cruised to the victory thanks in part to nine Neillsville errors.

Hailey Zimmermann earned the pitching win, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out six. She also was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in two.

Katelyn Casperson added three hits, and Sam Casperson and Shelby Spata both had two hits, with Spata driving in two runs. Akosua Yeboah also had two RBI in the win for Columbus Catholic.

Columbus is now 10-2 overall and is the last remaining undefeated team in the Cloverbelt East at 6-0. Neillsville drops to 8-6 and 8-1 in the conference. The two teams will play again at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on Thursday.

Prior to the rematch, Columbus Catholic plays at Gilman on Monday and will host Owen-Withee for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
